We are thrilled to announce that Ver Beek Law has donated to support the newly launched Bishop Dudley Center for Families, a program by the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House aimed at providing a lifeline to families in crisis. This initiative is a monumental step toward ensuring safety, wellness, and dignity for people experiencing homelessness in the Sioux Falls community.
The Bishop Dudley Center for Families: A Beacon of Hope
Living without a stable home is a reality for many in our community. Recent data shows that 1,400 Sioux Falls public school students are registered as homeless, and over 770 families are currently without a home of their own. The Bishop Dudley Center for Families will provide these families with the stability they need to rebuild their lives.
A Safe Haven
Located at 409 N Western Ave, in the building previously known as the Children's Inn, the Center for Families will offer a secure environment where families can stay together. This facility will feature ten multi-room units, complete with laundry and kitchen facilities, allowing families to live in a homely atmosphere as they work towards successful transitions into permanent housing, secure employment, and reliable transportation.
Comprehensive Support Programs
The Bishop Dudley Center for Families goes beyond providing shelter. With the extra space available at the new facility, families will have access to additional programming designed to equip them with essential life skills. These programs include:
Financial Literacy: Teaching families how to manage their finances effectively.
Healthy Living: Promoting wellness through proper nutrition and exercise.
Renter's Rights: Educating families on their rights and responsibilities as tenants.
Other Life Skills: Covering various topics to help families achieve self-sufficiency.
Transforming Lives: Tyler and Stephanie's Story
The impact of this initiative can be seen through the story of Tyler and Stephanie, a family who turned to the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House for emergency shelter. After a few months of working with case managers and partnering agencies, Tyler and Stephanie transitioned into a home of their own. Their story is a testament to the incredible work being done to help families in crisis regain stability and hope.
